Margaret of Anjou,  2014
Hand embroidered with watercolor

With an extensive creative background in fine art and print making, my embroidery takes on a unique and visually rich persona. I aim to create both pieces of fine art stitch and historically based costume to inform and fascinate the viewer. As a stitch artist my aim is to incorporate traditional technique into highly Romanticized figurative imagery depicting women in history.

Having always been an avid feminist from a young age the embroidery that I create is a tribute to women of both
past and present women of myth and legend. The stitch pieces I work are a means to transcribe a story though symbolism and image about the women thought time that have shaped societies and paved the way for the beginnings of an equal society.

This teamed with my extensive knowledge of both modern and ancient history from around the world creates and explosive mix of colours fact and meaning.

The piece displayed is part of a series in progress depicting feminist throughout history that I believe should be better known than they are currently.

Margaret Of Anjou was a British queen during the 15th century after her husband the king of England was
captured during the war of the roses she refused to give over the kingship and raised her own army to free the King. Besides being strong willed and proud Margaret also had a passion for the arts and learning during her reign she also gave her patronage to Queens College Cambridge.
